VIC: Tougher rules for developers under coalition
The Victorian Government has released a new planning policy including tougher rules for
developers and the legislative protection of the popular Mornington Peninsula.
Premier JEFF KENNETT has promised to introduce tougher guidelines for demolition and
development in established residential areas as part of a revised Good Design Guide.
The coalition policy also increases the involvement of municipal councils and local
communities in planning decisions.
It imposes harsher penalties for planning breaches and promises the strongest heritage
protection in Australia.
The government has long been plagued by claims it has overridden local councils and local
communities in planning issues.
