Qld: Irukandji victim still fighting for life in Townsville
BRISBANE, April 6 AAP - An American tourist is still fighting for his life in hospitalafter being stung by a jellyfish in North Queensland last weekend.
The 44-year-old Nestle worker from Ohio was stung while snorkelling off Opal Reef nearthe resort town of Port Douglas.
The man is understood to have developed irukandji syndrome from the sting, causinga rapid rise in blood pressure and a cerebral haemorrhage.
He remained in a critical but stable condition in Townsville Hospital's intensive careunit, a hospital spokesman said today.
Earlier this year, British tourist Richard Jordan became the first person on recordto die from Irukandji syndrome after being stung off Hamilton Island.
